Peru is a country in South America boarded by Ecuador and Columbia to the North, Brazil to the East, Bolivia to the Southeast, Chile to the south and the Pacific Ocean to the West. It is home to a section of Amazon rainforest and Machu Picchu, an ancient Incan city set high in the Andes mountains. The area surrounding Machu Picchu, including the Sacred Valley, the Inca Trail and the lively city of Cusco, is also rich in Incan sites as well as hiking, rafting and mountain-biking opportunities. The Capital of Peru is Lima. The Country covers 496,225 square miles with a population estimated to be about 29.5 million.
