Bahrain is a small island country situated near the western shores of the Persian Gulf and made up of 33 islands, of which Bahrain Island is the largest. Bahrain is connected to Saudi Aribia to the west by the King Fahd Causeway. It has a population of around 1,234,571 people. Oil was discovered in Bahrain in 1932, the first in the Arabian side of the Gulf.
