Malta is a Southern European country situated in the centre of the Mediterranean. Malta covers just over 122 square miles in land area, making it one of the world's smallest states. It is also one of the most densely populated countries worldwide. The Capital of Malta is Valletta.
TheĀ George Cross was awarded to the island of Malta by King George VI during the Siege of Malta undertaken by Italy and Germany in the early part of World War II.
