The Serengeti National Park is a large national park in Tanzania. It is most famous for its annual migration of over one and a half million white bearded (or brindled) wildebeest and 250,000 zebra. The Serengeti National Park is widely regarded as the best wildlife reserve in Africa due to its density of predators and prey. It is the oldest park in Tanzania covering 5,700 sq miles and lies in the north of the country boarding Kenya where it continues as the Maasai Mara National Reserve.
The Masai have been grazing their stock in the area for over 200 years.
It is known for a healthy stock of wildlife which includes the 'Big Five', Lion, African Leopard, African Elephant, Black Rhinoceros and African Buffalo. It also has Cheetah, Thomson's and Grant's Gazelle, Hyena, Giraffe, Kori Bustard and Crowned Crane.
We visited here in June 2001 and September 2016.
